The Seibu Chichibu Line is a relatively new line that opened in 1969, and was built for the purpose of transporting tourists and the limestone produced along the line. The Shomaru Tunnel, located north of Shomaru Station, is 4,811 meters long. At the time it was constructed, it was the longest private railway tunnel in Japan, and a signal station was installed inside the tunnel to let trains cross paths.
Since then, lime transportation on this route has ended, and the number of tourists has decreased. It was reported that shareholders had proposed a plan to remove the Seibu Chichibu Line in 2023 in order to improve management, but Seibu Railway and the leaders of the lines along the line rejected this proposal.
It was a choice that made both the users and us fans want to scream with applause.
While stopping at each station, the driver crosses in front of the lens to open and close the door, but I have omitted that part. please note that.
The Seibu Chichibu Line is full of fresh greenery in May.

Thank you for the Second Portion of the line. I enjoyed the long passage in the tunnel.

There is a person in the picture (not me), but please look at it as if there is no one there. He is probably a staff member who maintains the railway.

A wonderful ride through the green heart and veins (tunnels) of Honshu. Thank you

Thank you for your comment. This line is located very close to Tokyo, but it has a similar atmosphere to the railways in the mountainous regions of Japan. In fact, I rode this line when I was taking photos of the Chichibu Railway, and the scenery was more beautiful than I expected, so I went back again in the season of fresh greenery.

That is a well built line, with bridges and tunnels, including one very long tunnel, and no grades in mountainous territory. It could use some more riders.

When this line opened, there was a campaign to attract more tourists than now. It's a little low now. But the railways aren't in disrepair, are they? This is a wonderful thing about this railway company.

This is a facility where limestone was loaded onto freight cars. It is no longer in use. For us fans, it is a great pity to see the reduction in freight transport.
